How do people learn in the real world, outside of school?
How do people learn from and through technology in the real world?
What are the implications of that for what teaching and learning could/should look like?
New Topic: "21st century education" (Small group work -- 30 min.; large group discussion -- 15 min.) Essential Questions:
1. How has the meaning of “literacy” shifted and expanded in the 21st century?
2. How has “student,” “teacher,” and “learner” been redefined in the 21st century?
3. How does what you have learned add to your framework for good teaching and learning?
4. What is the role of technology in good teaching and learning?
5. What new questions do you have after studying the material on 21st century education?
Read chapters 1 and 2 in the Rethinking Education... text. After reading the two chapters, visit the Discussion Forum. Pull from the chapter a passage, paragraph, sentence, etc. that provoked your thinking. Write a short reflection on how it engaged your thinking in general. Please post your contribution prior to class Thursday evening. If you can, revisit the forum and engage in a conversation with your classmates on the topics for the week. We will spend some time Thursday discussing the chapters.
